Newsletter
Hi all members,
Following a recent committee meeting, we wish to remind you of the following:
· As it is Hunton Bowls Club’s 90th birthday this year, we will be having a special raffle draw at the Presentation Evening. Please note that that this will apply to playing members only who will have to be present at the Presentation Evening to qualify. There will be no cost to enter this raffle but the prizes are awesome. So remember to save the date which is Monday, 16th November 2026.
· Barbecue – Sunday, 28th June 2026. Please remember to bring your own drinks and chairs. Bowling will start at 1pm followed by the barbecue at 4pm. I sent an email earlier today regarding this, but if you have any queries, please contact me.
· It has been noted that some people are uncomfortable with the new method of booking a rink. If you are having difficulty in doing so please talk to Andy Hunt and he will assist. You can either text/Whatsapp or email him. His contact number is 07751614441 or email him on huntonbowlsclub@gmail.com.
· There are a number of members who arrive to play a game with a £5, £10 or £20 note and there isn’t enough change around to give them. If you do not use tokens, please come to the game with the correct amount or be prepared to receive change in the form of tokens. Hugh does not carry a float of money to matches.
Regards
Lorraine
Hi all members,
Wow – what a start to the season. Two club games with a fantastic turnout. It was great to see so many people playing again.
There are a few important matters to bring to your attention:
A question has been raised by a member as to whether they could bring friends (who are not members of Hunton Bowls Club) for a roll up.
Unfortunately, the answer is no as should there be an issue, it would invalidate our insurance. We also need to ensure the green is not damaged, as we will not be aware as to whether the visitors are bowlers or not.
As we have so many new members, we will now not be accepting any new applications until 2027.
When you have put your name up for selection for a game and are then selected, we need you to go to the club and tick off that you are available and aware of the selection.
Teams selected are published on the website and will also be published on the Men’s and Ladies WhatsApp groups.
Competitions – to date, Andy has only received 4 requests for rinks. There are a lot of competitions to be completed in first rounds, by the 29th May 2026. Please can you arrange your match with your relevant opponent. We have also set aside all the rinks for Sunday, 24th May 2026. So if you can come down to the club to play your match. Please remember to let Andy Hunt know, so that he can book you a rink.
The order for the shirts has been placed and we expect delivery between the 20th to 29th May. As soon as they are available for collection we will let you know.
Barbecue – we will be holding our barbecue on Sunday, 28th June this year. The cost of this will be £12 for members who are playing; this includes green fees, the raffle, a spider and your hamburger/hotdog. For non- players the cost will be £8 which will include the raffle and the hamburger/hot dog. Salads and dessert will also be included in the price. We hope to have a great turnout for this. A further communication will be sent prior to the day.
Happy bowling everyone.
Regards
Lorraine

As a reminder, the Club Competition draw, this will be held on Saturday, 2nd May 2026 at 1.15pm, prior to the Club game.
Weekly friendlies – we will be introduction a new role – Club Steward. Each week when the teams are selected, 2 people in the group will be nominated to be Club Stewards. The responsibilities of the Club Stewards will be to ensure that the greens are set up prior to the match with all the necessary equipment and to ensure that everything is packed away after the game. Also to ensure that all the toilets, changing rooms and club house is locked up before leaving the green. If you are unable to fulfil this role when you are appointed please advise Lol asap, in order for him to find a replacement.
The ladies rotas for cleaning and tea duty will be sent to you next week and will be placed on the notice board in the Ladies Changing Room.
The rota for the men to assist at the greens will be also be sent in the next few weeks.
We are having the final working party, on Wednesday, 22nd April 2026 at 9am., so we are requesting men volunteers to assist. Your assistance would be most appreciated.
Since printing the Fixtures Card, there has been a game added to the fixtures, so please be sure to add this to your own booklet. The game is a friendly against Pembury at home, on Sunday, 21st June 2026 2.30pm.

SPRINKLERS
Recently the sprinklers came on when roll up were happening. If this should happen to you, you can switch it off. In the ladies change room, directly opposite the door, is a small pine cabinet. Inside the cabinet on the right hand side, is a plug switch. Simply switch this to off.
BOOKING A RINK FOR A CLUB COMPETITION
When booking a rink to play a competition please do it one of two ways.
Check the rinks calendar on the website or the one in the clubhouse to make sure a rink is free. If you are doing it online then email Andy via huntonbowlsclub@gmail.com with the date you wish to play, the rink number, who you are playing
If you are in the clubhouse then enter the details onto the paper copy and then email the above address. That way Andy can keep the online version up to date.
